The Chord Chameleon VEE 3 uses Chords established Chameleon SilverPlus cable. The conductors though have been re-configured into a single signal and dual return configuration to improve definition and timing. The multi-stranded silver-plated oxygen free copper conductors are insulated with FEP, a combination of materials that improves signal transfer at frequency extremes. A cotton fibre conductor wrap reduces mechanical noise and a fully floating high frequency effective, high-density braid and foil shielding combination minimises signal loss through interference. The shields are surrounded by soft PVC to further reduce mechanical noise and this is protected by a hard PVC outer casing. The Chameleon VEE 3 cable gives us a chance to experiment with conductor configurations. There are four sets of silver-plated conductors within the Chameleons outer jacket, plus an extremely effective dual-layer shield. This gives us a chance to terminate the Chameleon XLR in an unconventional way but one that produces particularly good results. The Chameleon VEE 3 RCA is often described as a giant killer cable and the same is true of the Chameleon VEE 3 XLR cable.
XLR connections originate in recording studios, where it was necessary to transmit signal through long cable runs from microphone to recording desk. Whereas XLR sockets used to be found only on high-end recording equipment, these days they are often found on hi-fi and home cinema kit, alongside RCA sockets. Though XLR transmits a 'balanced' signal, an XLR cable is not always better than an RCA cable over short runs - it can be best to listen to both options, and choose according to personal preference.
