Duel on Ganryujima was a famous battle between Musashi Miyamoto and Kojiro Sasaki, on Ganryu Island. It is said that Musashi arrived late for the battle, but then went on to defeat Kojiro with a long wooden sword he had carved from a ship #39;s oar on his travel to the island. The battle scene has been depicted on the traditional Samurai leather patch. It is one of the most well-known and talked about battles in Japanese history, fought by two of the most famous samurai ever to live. It would be no exaggeration to say that the history of Samurai Jeans leather patches really began with this battle.
