The reason to use this switch is that we will need to reboot our MikroTik a few times and every time our PC will lose the link. It’s much better to have its link always up. In the case that you have one of those Routerboards in the plastic case, you don’t need a null-modem cable, as they don’t possess any COM port. The process is a slightly different and I will explain that part in another post. In addition, many newer Routerboards are equipped with a RJ45 based terminal port, the same to those used on any Cisco network devices. In such case, you need a serial to console port cable.
