Astell&Kern made the decision to switch to 904L stainless steel for the chassis;
904L is an extremely tough material to machine but also one that demonstrates extreme levels of toughness and resistance to corrosion.

The material is favored by high-end watch makers for their luxury and rather expensive time pieces.
904L stainless steel has more than 20% chromium and 20% nickel which impact its strength and corrosion resistance and also allows 904L to take a mirror polish and keep it nearly indefinitely.
