Tokopedia Reveals Online Shopping Trends in the First Semester of 2023: Transactions Increased Significantly in Eastern

Jakarta, 31 July 2023 - The e-Conomy SEA 2022 report shows that around 80% of digital consumers will continue to use and increase their usage of digital services in 2023. On Tokopedia, the high public interest in shopping online can be seen in the various product categories that have been selling well throughout the first half of 2023.

Antonia Adega, Corporate Affairs Lead Tokopedia said, "During the first semester of 2023, Household, Automotive, Fashion, Electronics, Hobbies, and Lifestyle are the product categories with the highest public interest on Tokopedia compared to the second half of 2022."

Meanwhile, in the Automotive product category, cars, motorbikes, and oil are the best-selling products, with an average transaction increase of more than two times," said Antonia.*

For online sales of electric cars and electric motorbikes, Tokopedia recorded an increase of almost four times and ten times, respectively. ** “To accommodate the public’s high demand for various automotive products, we introduced Tokopedia Garage, which provides a selection of automotive products with flash sales at IDR 5,000,” explained Antonia.

"Through this campaign, people can also buy electric vehicles, both cars and motorbikes, with discounts of up to IDR 10,000,000. This is in line with one of GoTo's Three Zeros commitments, in this case, zero carbon emissions, as well as supporting government programs to encourage the use of electric vehicles," added Antonia.

"With the return of people's activities before the pandemic, the Fashion product category on Tokopedia is also experiencing a positive trend. Several fashion products, such as children's Muslim clothing, men's Muslim clothing, and women's Muslim outerwear are the best selling with an average increase in transactions of more than three times," said Antonia.*

Tokopedia held Women in Style, Galeri Fashion Pria and Modest On Trend to present women's, men's and modest wear products, with discounts of up to 90%, cashback up to IDR 500,000, and flash sales starting from IDR 5,000.

"In the Electronic product category on Tokopedia, True Wireless Stereo (TWS), smartphones and tablets are the best-selling products, with an average transaction increase of nearly 4.5 times. In the Hobbies and Lifestyle product category, virtual reality devices, international sim cards, and board games are some of the best-selling products, with an average transaction increase of almost six times," said Antonia.*

Hyperlocal Tokopedia Boosts Transactions in Several Eastern Indonesia Regions by 8 Times

"Currently, there are more than 14 million sellers on Tokopedia, where almost 100% are MSME entrepreneurs. People in 99% of sub-districts in Indonesia can access more than 1.8 billion registered products at transparent prices through Tokopedia," explained Antonia.

Tokopedia is actively working to improve the competitiveness of MSME entrepreneurs across all regions in Indonesia, to enable entrepreneurs to grow and develop their businesses without having to relocate to the capital city. In addition, Tokopedia's Hyperlocal initiative makes it easier for buyers to find diverse products and fulfill their needs quickly and efficiently.

Hyperlocal Tokopedia implements geo-tagging technology and has various manifestations. Kumpulan Toko Pilihan (KTP) is a product curation page for the seller closest to the buyer's location. There is also Dilayani Tokopedia, an order fulfillment service that allows sellers to store products at Tokopedia's smart warehouses in high-demand areas.

"Thanks to Hyperlocal Tokopedia and its manifestations, several regions in Indonesia experienced the highest increase in the number of sellers, namely Aceh Tenggara (Aceh), Sampang (East Java), and Bulukumba (South Sulawesi), with an average increase of two times," explained Antonia.*

"Meanwhile, several regions experienced the highest increase in the number of transactions, including Nduga (Mountain Papua), Southwest Maluku (Maluku), and Raja Ampat (Southwest Papua), with an average increase of eight times. * Even the farthest shipments were in semester I 2023 and took place from Banda Aceh (Aceh) to Merauke (South Papua) for jerseys and cycling pants products," explained Antonia.

"We also see a positive impact on economic growth thanks to the presence of Hyperlocal Tokopedia in various regions in Indonesia. Based on research by Tokopedia and the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF), during 2019-2021, the average percentage of economic growth in cities without Hyperlocal was recorded at 1.26%, while in cities with Hyperlocal Tokopedia, the figure was higher, namely 2.78%,” concluded Antonia.
