Indonesia, 16 June 2021 – In the technology industry, human resources is key to compete on the national and global levels. This was stated by the CEO and Founder of Tokopedia, William Tanuwijaya, at the 2021 Freedom Campus Festival discussion with the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo and the Indonesian Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, representatives of academics and other industry players.
“Generally, technology companies must retrain their talents in accordance with the fast and dynamic development of the industry. On the other hand, we are all competing to launch the best innovations so that time becomes very valuable and requires collaboration from all parties. This is the main motivation for Tokopedia to join the Freedom Campus program,” said William.
Tokopedia also presented two initiatives to support the Freedom Campus Program created by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. First, the Certified Internship Program is available for three fields. One of them is the Software Engineering internship program for digital talents who are interested in the latest technological innovations, including machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).
There is also a Marketing internship program for talents who are interested in studying communication, social media and marketing, while talents who want to broaden their experience regarding company strategy and operations can join the Business Development internship program.
Second, Hackathon Devcamp, which is a competition to build products and solutions in a very short time. The winner of this Devcamp Hackathon will be immediately offered to join Tokopedia permanently.
On the same occasion, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, said that the Freedom Campus movement would accelerate the preparation of Indonesian talents. This is a talent boosting strategy that must be supported and requires collaboration from all, from campuses, students, industry players and others.
Jokowi continued, what is also very important is speed. This includes reviewing the curriculum on campus, developing educational programs in the industrial world and developing the national ecosystem. This is not only the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology’s work, but all of us play a role in this, especially the government, industry players and others to build an advanced Indonesia.
The Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, said that the need for better human resources in the future cannot be met solely based on past experiences. To be able to compete at the world level, human resources in Indonesia must have competence in various fields.
Nadiem explained that the Freedom Campus program provides an opportunity for tens of thousands of students to learn to find experiences outside of campus. The learning process can happen anywhere and with anyone, including with more than 160 world-class companies and organizations or state-owned enterprises that have created 20.000 internship opportunities.
